Guwahatians feel uneasy in ‘Republic day event’

Pratidin Bureau

For the first time in Assam history, Guwahatians have felt uncomfortable while visiting to witness the Republic day event at Veterinary field in Guwahati here. The main reason behind their uneasiness was "A colour" and that is 'Black' as Black flag protests continue in the state against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. That's why; black flag has become a trouble for the government.

Following the proverb 'Prevention is better than cure', Assam government has applied a new method to get rid of the black flag protests. People wearing black or carrying any black cloth on them were kept out of Republic day celebration on Saturday. People had to remove 'Black clothes- materials' outside the event venue, while taking part in the event.

The restriction was apparently meant to rule out any chance of a protest at the venue. Policemen were seen checking people for any piece of black cloth and anyone wearing a black shirt was not allowed in.

The ban order comes in the wake of the ongoing agitation across Assam for scrapping Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The administration has banned entry of all black materials including black dresses to the Janata Bhawan here on Friday. Anybody coming to the Janata Bhawan with any black material will not be allowed to enter the Janata Bhawan.
