HAILAKANDI row | Govt announces ex-gratia to victims’ families

The Assamgovernment on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the family ofthe deceased of the Hailakandi violence. The government further announced ex-gratiaof Rs. 50 thousands each to families of those, who sustained injuries duringthe incident.

The decision was informed by Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary. Earlier, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal has directed an inquiry into the Hailakandi incident.

On Friday afternoon a clash broke out between members of two groups after some people protested against the prayers being held on the road. Police opened fire in the air to disperse the mob. One identified as Jisam Hussain succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Moreover, 15 including 3 policemen are undergoing treatment in Silchar Hospital.
