Hajj Pilgrims from Assam promote Assamese ‘Gamocha’

Pratidin Bureau

Onceagain in a move to make Assamese 'Gamocha' renowned across the globe, the Hajjpilgrims from Assam were seen donning traditional gamochas during their holy prayers in Meccaand Medina.

AssamCM Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has provided the gamochas to the Hajjpilgrims from Assam. The Hajj pilgrims have thanked both CM Sonowal andHandloom Ranjit Dutta for their effort.

It may be mentioned here that there were two primary motives behind the decision to let the pilgrims from Assam carry a gamocha.

"The decision will help people of Assam to easily identify and stay connected with their own kind among the 80-90 lakh pilgrims from across the world. The second reason is to promote the gamocha and Assamese culture worldwide," Northeast Hajj Pilgrims Coordination Committee (NEHPCC) chairman Nekibur Zaman had said.
