Harchura Military Camp Promotes Greenery

On the occasion of 71st Van Mahotsav Week – the national festival for tree plantation in India, 134 TA ETF and Assam Forest Department carried out a plantation drive at Harchura Military Camp today. Brigadier Barua, Station Commander, inaugurated the event by planting a 'Canon Ball' (Naagsompa) sapling.

Shri Jatindra Sarma, IFS, Conservator of Forest, Northern Assam Circle, Assam Forest Department and Chairman, State Medicinal Plants Board, Assam, graced the event that was also attended by the Commandant, Harchura Military Camp, Harchura and Commanding Officer of 134 ETF and other military dignitaries.

The event witnessed planting of 2000 saplings of various species of trees by the dignitaries and soldiers of 134 ETF and Harchura Military Camp by diligently following all COVID-19 protocols. The tree species, mostly endemic to the state of Assam, included different types of tall and shady trees, fruit bearing ones, flower bearing species and medicinal plants with an aim of promoting bio- diversity in the region.
