Hima wins Silver, clocked 50.79 sec to run 400 m

Hima Das, country's sprint sensation has once again proved her mettle as she wins Silver medal at the Jakarta Asiad on Sunday. Hima clocked 50.79 sec to run 400 m. Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser wins Gold medal in the 400 m race.

Hima is the second athlete from Assam, who has won a medal at the Asian track and field event. In 1966 Bangkok Asiad , Bhogesrwar Barua won a Gold in 800 m race.

Hima Das, the Golden Girl from Assam had recently made India proud in world track and field events.
In the semifinal heats, she finished in second spot behind Bahrain's Salwa Naser who created a new Asian Games record as she took top spot by finishing the race in 50.86 seconds.

This is noteworthy that Hima clocked 51.46 at the 400m in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships but she clocked 51.13 in the Senior National held at Guwahati, which was incidentally her best.
The sprinter had been practicing hard for her events at the Jakarta Asiad. With her personal coach Nipon Das by her side during the most crucial days of her three athletic events in Jakarta, she was confident of doing well in all her events.
