Pratidin Bureau

Assam Minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party's Northeast minder Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his family visited Kamakhya Devalaya atop Nilachal Hills in Guwahati after the 'Nibritti' ritual of the Ambubachi fair.

Visited Kamakhya at the end of the nibritti in Ambubachi. Walked around the 4 corners of the temple which is closed due to Covid-19 and prayed for world peace", Sarma wrote.

'Nibritti' ritual is one in which the idol is traditionally said to be purified and the 'angavastram' cloth removed.

The Nilachal Hills wears a deserted look on Ambubachi which was started on Monday morning. The Ambubachi which is celebrated annually during the middle of June has not witnessed any pilgrims, sadhus, or visitors in the Kamakhya temple this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
