Himanta thanks Manipur Governor as political crisis resolves

Pratidin Bureau

In a fascinating twist to the political scenario of Manipur, the four NPP MLAs, who had earlier withdrawn their support to the BJP-led government, have been reconciled, and are now willing to continue to support the current regime.

The four MLAs, on Thursday, met the Governor of Manipur, Najma Heptulla, and gave their letter of support to the BJP-led government in the state. They were joined by NPP Chief, Conrad Sangma and the much touted troubleshooter of Northeast, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The  Governor twitted, "A delegation of National People's Party led by Shri @SangmaConrad alongwith Shri @himantabiswa called on me and all the 4 MLAs gave their letter of support to BJP led Government in the State of Manipur."

Responding to the Governor's tweet, Health Minister of Assam as well as Convenor of North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to twitter on Friday to write, "Thank you Her Excellency @nheptulla Ji. We have noted, and acknowledge your advice that this is the time to work for the development of #Manipur, and stand by the people of the the state, especially in times like these when we are in the midst of a pandemic."

Before the reconciliation, both Sangma and Sarma were playing a very active role in resolving the differences of the 'rebel' MLAs with the current regime. The MLAs were also flown to New Delhi on Wednesday to meet Home Minister, Amit Shah.
