Illegal immigration issue : Assam Govt. accepts its failure

Finally, the Assam Govt. has accepted its failure to solve the illegal immigration issue. This development comes after Supreme court in this context slammed at the Assam government on Thursday for failing to address the issue of illegal immigrants.

"The Assam government admitted that over 1 lakh declared foreigners by the various tribunals are untraceable now. There were 1 lakh 12 thousand declared foreigners in Assam, while four have been deported to their home land.": Assam Chief Minister's legal advisor Shantanu Bharali said in a statement.

"The state govt. is planning to file a new affidavit before the court" : he added.

Govt. of Assam proposed release of detained foreigners after five years with a bond and biometric and the apex court on Thursday voiced unhappiness over the state government for filing an affidavit saying declared foreigners who have been in detention centers for more than five years can be released subject to fulfilling certain conditions.
