Indo-Bangla Border Talks Begin

A district magistrate-cum-collector level joint border conference between India and Bangladesh was held on Monday.

India was represented at the talks by the DCs (Deputy Commissioner) and SPs (Superintendent of Police) of Cachar and Karimganj along with the senior officials of the BSF, while Bangladesh was represented by a team of deputy commissioners-cum-magistrates, and was held at the Cachar DC conference hall.

The conference discussedissues such as ways to tackle smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgentmovements, narcotics, human trafficking and improving border management betweenthe two countries.

Both teams expressed satisfaction and said such deliberations not only help to mutually sort out disputes at the grass-root level but also help promote confidence-building between two nations.

A 17-member delegationfrom Bangladesh, including district commissioner-cum-magistrates (DCMs), BorderGuard Bangladesh (BGB) officials, Superintendent of Police of borderingdistricts attended the meeting with their Indian counterparts.
