In a shocking incident of orthodox beliefs, a mother and hernewborn were not allowed inside a relief camp in flood hit Mangaldai.

The mother and her 10-day old child had to spend four dayson the Veranda pertaining to a section of people's taboo related to the birthof a child.

According to reports, the woman gave birth to her child inMangaldoi Civil Hospital and due to the floods both the mother and the childhad to be shifted to the Gerimari Relief Camp. Due to such birth related taboo,the duo were not allowed to sleep inside the camp.

However, after coming to know about the plight of the mother and child, a self-help group named, 'UNITY we the blood donors' counselled the people sheltered in the camp to accept the duo.

Such incidents at this hour of need compel us to askourselves, is this what it means to be humane?
