Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed one more life in Bihpuria. The victim has been identified as Mousumi Saikia Baruah of Rajabari area under Bihpuria and was undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

As perreports, the woman was six-month pregnant. She died on Thursday.

Thedisease has spread to almost every district of the State killing around morethan 50 people. Earlier, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta BiswaSarma, however, earlier announced the cancellation of leaves of all doctorstill September 30 in order to combat the disease.

JE isvector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culex groups of mosquitoes. Thesemosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and large water bodies rich in aquaticvegetations. Migratory birds along with pigs in the community play an importantrole in the transmission of JE from one area to another area.
