KMSS protests against ‘Big Dam’ As Power Min Visits

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has staged a protest demonstration against setting up of big river projects in Assam during the visit of Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh to Assam‎.

Singh on Tuesday chaired a meeting with the power ministers of eight northeastern states on Tuesday at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati to discuss ways and means for improving the power scenario in the northeastern states.

KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi with other members take out a procession in front of Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati. Hundreds of KMSS members joined the protest and the activists shouted various slogans against the construction of big dams and demanded the government to stop the construction process by NHPC. This was followed by the senior officials of Kamrup district (M) administration reached the agitation venue to handle the situation.

The meeting was also attended by the officials from North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPCL) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL). The Union Minister emphasized exploiting the renewable energy potential in the state.
