After the construction work at the Subansiri (Lower)Hydroelectric Project of NHPC was resumed following an order of the NationalGreen Tribunal (NGT), the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on Friday stagedmassive protest across different districts of Assam against the Centre's pushto construct the big dam in the State.

Hundreds of KMSS members joined the protest and theactivists shouted various slogans against the construction of the big dam anddemanded the government to stop the construction process by NHPC.

"We are not against small dams and dams but the big dam will spoil our lives and livelihood. If completed it will flood all fertile agricultural lands, destroying the flora and fauna of the region and displace thousands of people in the area," said a protester. "We will protect our land, and fight for it!" added another.
