Locals Stage Protest Against Shifting of Dumping Ground

Pratidin Bureau

The residence of Chandrapur has staged a protest under the aegis of Chandrapur Anchalik Students' Union against the shifting of dumping ground to the area from Boragaon.

The protestors also burnt the effigy of GMC and MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita. They further stated that they won't allow Chandrapur to be a dustbin at any circumstances.

It may be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to shift the dumping ground of Boragaon to Chandrapur. Following the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the GMC has decided to shift the dumping ground from the present location to the Chandrapur area.

However, it would not be known as dumping ground, rather the government will build a Solid Waste Extraction Project in Chandrapur. The project will be ready within 3 years, informed GMC authorities.
