LS polls: Assam Congress to bring new faces

Pratidin Bureau

All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed Assam Congress to prepare a ticket contenders' list by focusing more on young and new faces for upcoming Loksabha elections.

According to sources, Congress president Rahul Gandhi is looking for new faces to revive the party.  Recently, General Secretary of All India Congress committee Harish Rawat had met all the senior leaders of APCC and Rawat has issued instructions to make a list of new candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Rawat and AICC believe that giving more space to new faces and young leaders is the only way to emerge as a viable alternative to the ruling BJP. Assam Congress has intended to capture 65-70 per cent of voters who are below the age of 35 years. That's why the new instruction has been issued by AICC.

In a statement of Harish Rawat, senior Congress leaders of Assam have ready to make sacrifices for reviving the party.
