Lovlina confirms medal, Bhagyabati lost

2018 is undoubtedly a breakthrough year for Assam sports. Assam's Lovlina Borgohain today confirmed herself a medal after sailing to the semis of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. She defeated Australia's Kaye Scott in Women's welter (69kg) category by unanimous decision 5-0.

Adding another feather to her cap, 5 time World Championship gold medallist MC Mary Kom also assured herself of another medal when she defeated China's Wu Yu 5-0 in the light flyweight (48kg) category to qualify for the semi finals. With 5 world titles, Mary Kom is currently the joint most world title holder with Ireland's Katie Taylor.

In another match, Assam's Bhagyabati Kachari went down fighting and lost her quarterfinal bout against Colombia's Jessica Simisterra in Women's light heavy (81 kg) category in the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship.
