Manipur Registers 78 New Cases of COVID-19, Tally at 4,765

Manipur on Wednesday reported 78 new cases of COVID-19, taking the state's tally to 4,765 including 1221 Central Armed Police Force personnel, informed health officials.

The COVID-19 Common Control Room in a press statement said, "In the past 24 hours, 73 persons (49 male, 24 female) from the general population and 5 from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases."

The COVID-19 cases are from Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) of the JNIMS and eight other testing centres, it said. They are from Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Noney districts, it added.

"Only four from Imphal West out of the general population are returnees from other states and the rest are locals without any significant travel history, adding that they are being shifted to the Covid care facilities," the statement said.

"All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place," it added.

In the past 24 hours, 55 people were discharged from CAPF, Covid Care Centres of Lamboikhongnangkhong, Lanva Churachandpur and TK Ukhrul, it said.

The state has 1,958 active cases while 2,789 patients have recovered from the disease. The recovery rate is 58.53 percent.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of deaths due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions in the state increases to 18 after the expiry of a female aged 75 yrs from Imphal West at JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences) today, as per the release.
