Massive fire breaks out at jute godown in Goalpara

Pratidin Bureau

A massive fire broke out at Jute Corporation of India godown at Bhalukdubi in Goalpara in the wee hours of Thursday. Visuals from the spot showed thick smoke billowing out.

Workers who were in the unit, managed to rush out as soon as the fire broke out, some of them said. No casualties have been reported so far.

At least five fire engines have been trying to contain the blaze. Fire force sources say that even after the fire is doused, they would still be on high alert, since the substances are highly combustible. And since the building has been on fire for more than four hours, the building or parts of it can even collapse.

Jute worth Rs. 6 crores gutted in the fire, sources said.
