Mizoram MLA Helps Woman Deliver a Baby

Pratidin Bureau

In a remarkable and rare instance of a legislator turning into a life-saver, Mizoram legislator ZR Thiamsanga helped a woman deliver a baby in the remote Champhai North of the Champhai district near the Myanmar border.

As per a PTI report, Thiamsanga, who is also a doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, performed an emergency cesarean operation on the woman upon learning that no doctor was available at that time.
The legislator was visiting the earthquake-hit areas of the said district on Monday when he came across the condition of the woman. The medical officer of the Champhai hospital was on leave that day owing to health issues.

The report quoted the legislator as saying that he rushed to the hospital where the woman was admitted after he learned about it. The patient named C Lalhmangaihsangi (38) was bleeding profusely and was in a critical state, the legislator was quoted by PTI as saying.
Thiamsanga is from the Mizo National Front party. He had contested in the 2018 elections and defeated the Congress MLA TT Zothansanga.
