Modi-Abe Summit dates soon: MEA

India and Japan hope to soon finalise dates for summit talksbetween Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

The two leaders were earlier scheduled to meet in Decemberin Guwahati but the summit was postponed following protests regardingCitizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"We are in touch with the Japanese side through diplomaticchannels and hope we very soon come to the finalisation of the dates. It is anannual mechanism", External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said.

The cancellation of the Japanese prime minister's trip camea day after Bangladeshi Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and Home MinisterAsaduzzaman Khan called off their visits to India in view of the situationarising out of the enactment of the CAA.

Modi and Abe were set to meet in Guwahati between December15 to17.

Diplomatic sources had said the Japanese government clearlyconveyed to New Delhi that it would not be possible for Abe to travel toGuwahati in view of large-scale protests in the northeastern region.
