The 19th edition of the prestigious Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup Football Championship 2018 came to a close on Sunday evening. It was the traditional heavyweights Mohammedan Sporting Club from Kolkata who prevailed against Oil India Ltd FC from Duliajan in the final match played under flood lights at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) Ground here in Kokrajhar, Bodoland.

The Black Panthers from Kolkata started brightly and created chances in the opening few minutes in the 7 p.m. kick off encounter. But Oil India FC regained momentum and tried to make a move of their own. The team from upper Assam looked comfortable right from the beginning of the second half, exchanging passes with ease. Although both sides had their chances however could not capitalize on those opportunities thereby the match ended at 0-0 stalemate after the end of regulation time.

The match was directly headed for a penalty shoot-out in which the visitors from Bengal turned out victorious with a 5-4 scoreline. Incidently, Mohammedan Sporting had beaten Oil India, Duliajan by 3-1 in the Final of the 65th Bordoloi Trophy 2018 held in Nehru Stadium, Guwahati earlier this month.
