NDFB cadre apprehended; planned to carry out activities disrupting Independence Day 2018

Based on the lead given by apprehended NDFB(S) cadre of 39th batch Dikum Basumatary aka B Dehrasart and OGW Jibiar Basumatary, a joint operation was launched by Kokrajhar District Police and 12 Sikh Li Army on July 25 in Kokrajhar's Khalasi under Serfanguri Police Station.

Acting on the inputs, multiple ambushes were laid in the forest area. At around 4 am, the ambush team noticed suspicious movement of one person. The team challenged the suspect, but he tried to escape.

However, the suspect identified as Deepak Brahma, a hardcore NDFB(S) cadre of 39th batch was apprehended and interrogated on the spot.

One hand grenade of Chinese origin, one Intex Multimedia mobile phone with three Vodafone SIM cards had been recovered from him.

Later, on being led by Brahma, the joint operation team conducted search in the area as pointed out by him and one 5.56mm M-16 Rifle (made in USA) with one magazine. 2. 11 (Eleven) 5.56 mm live rounds had been recovered that was kept hidden underground in Khalasi.

Reportedly, he has been involved in extortion, recruitment of new cadres and other subversive activities in Kokrajhar district. He has been continuously trying to carry out disruptive activities in the run up to the Independence Day, 2018.

Further investigation is going on.
