Nearly 10 lakh farmers affected in Assam floods

Assam Agriculture and Veterinary minister Atul Bora on Thursday briefed on the devastating flood situation in the state and said nearly 10 lakh farmers have been affected severely.

The minister informed 9,95,260 farmers so far have been affected. Adding," 10,531 villages of 27 districts in the state have been affected by the gruesome floods and said around 22,33,850 animals have suffered in the floods out of which are 14,39,318 ducks and chickens".

Around ten thousand tractors have been allotted to farmers. 10 lakh farmers have been insured with the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

To tackle the flood situation, the centre had earlier released rupees nine crores.

New recruitment will be given to 1920 for grade three positions in the agriculture department, 42 vacancies will be opened for senior engineers and 12 senior engineers, 113 development officers' in the agriculture department, 31 grade third in the veterinary department, 224 field assistants, 86 fourth-grade employees and 17 gazetted officers.
