NHPC resumes construction of Lower Subansiri Dam

Amid the ongoing protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the construction of the Lower Subansiri hydroelectric power project (LSHEP) has been resumed by the NHPC in Dhemaji district.

According to reports, NHPC has begun the construction of power house in parallel to the construction of the main dam. Several hundreds of labours have been working daily at the construction site.

Recently, Union Power Minister RK Singh had stated that the construction of the Lower Subansiri hydroelectric power project will be completed within four years.

Meanwhile, several local organisations have demanded immediate shut down of the ongoing construction work at the site.
