Pratidin Bureau

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case and has taken over the investigation into the matter of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, Qamar uz Zaman and his other aid from Assam.

The presence of Hizbul Mujahideen in Assam came to the fore when the UP police arrested one Qamar uz Zaman in Kanpur by UP ATS. Following his arrest, the Assam police arrested eight of his allies in different location of Assam.

On Sunday, it was reported that the NIA has taken over the investigation formally on the expansion of the terrorist group in Assam. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh police were handling the case.

The NIA had already been probing the matter for previous weeks with the Assam and UP police before taking over the case formally.

According to reports, the Uttar Pradesh police have claimed that the dreaded terrorist was planning to carry out a terror attack in UP. Zaman stayed at a rented house in Kanpur Shiv Nagar as Dr Hurera and used a scooter with an Indian Air Force tag. He joined Hizbul Mujahideen through a person named Osama and undertook militant training at Kashmir in April 2017.
