NRC : AASU reacts to former minister Purkayastha’s statement

AASU General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi has termed the activities of BJP as 'Two-faced'.

On Sunday, a coordinators' team of Barak BJP leaders had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi.

The BJP team was headed by former union minister of state Kabindra Purkayastha.

After meeting Rajnath Singh, the Barak BJP leader Purkayastha made some controversial comments on NRC and Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

After which, On Monday AASU GS Gogoi, reacted to Purkayastha's statements on NRC and said that, "BJP is two-faced."

"In the beginning of NRC updating process, BJP Government had campaigned to earn credit. But, before the publishing of NRC final draft, Government has started to support the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016." – said Gogoi.

He further added that BJP's two-faced activities are showing disrespect towards the Supreme Court of India, since the entire NRC process is being conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India.

It will not be tolerated if anyone tries to politicize NRC and historic Assam accord.

It may be mentioned that surprisingly, the coordinators' team of Barak BJP discussed with Home minister Singh on D-voters, NRC, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 during the time of NRC updating process.

The team also demanded to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) bill in the upcoming assembly session.
