NRC: Man attempts suicide

Inyet another sensational incident in the State, a person identified as RahimUddin, has attempted to commit suicide in Udali area near Lanka town in Hojaidistrict on Saturday due to frustration over National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Rahimnarrowly escaped death when he was admitted to a hospital as he consumed poisonafter increasing possibility of his name being cut off from the NRC list.

Accordingto reports, Rahim appeared in the hearing of NRC claims & objection, wherehe was informed that his father, Late Basir Uddin's name was listed as BasirAli in the voter list. The NRC authorities allegedly threatened him of Rs.50,000 fine and jail term. Following the development, Rahim had filed anapplication in the Circle Office. But upon invited to the Circle Office, anxious Rahim tried tocommit suicide.

Luckily, Rahim rushed to a hospital in Hojai, where he is undergoing treatment.
