Over 600 held for submitting fake documents in NRC

The Assam government had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to monitor investigation into NRC-related cases and in total some 601 people have been arrested by the NRC's SIT team so far.

The investigation squad has registered about 469 cases for producing fake documents in NRC update.

The accused have produced many suspected documents during the verification and the NRC officers were unable to verify the information provided by them.

After thorough examination by SIT, police arrested the suspected citizens. Allegedly, the accused had submitted fake voter lists, fake birth certificates and fake revenue receipts in the NRC updation process.

Meanwhile, the Foreigners' tribunal has issued disciplinary action against Dr. Soneswar Deuraja and Dr. Upen Chandra Nath for issuing fake birth certificates to suspected citizens.

All the certificates which had been issued by the two medical officers may be verified – said an official.
