Pratidin Bureau

BJP MLA from Bokajan, Dr Numal Momin, on Wednesday took oath as the new Chairperson of Assam Urban Water Supply & Sewerage Board in the rank and status of Minister of State.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday (October 22) announced new appointments to various Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and advisory boards in the State.

After taking charge, Dr. Numal Momin assured of providing clean drinking water to the people of the State.

Speaking on the affects of Assam bandh on Tuesday, the MLA said that the bandh had partial impact in the State. Vehicles were plying smoothly throughout the day and the bandh was nothing considered to the bandh in Karbi Anglong that stretched for 1000-1500 hours, Momin said.

He also expressed his views on the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)'s likely decision of not returning to Assam to consult the people of the State on the Citizenship Bill issue, Momin said that he is unaware about it and stated that previously the JPC visited Assam because of the leadership of CM Sonowal.

Speaking about the protest rally carried out by Assam BJP government's ally, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), on Tuesday, the new chairperson said that AGP is not abiding by the norms of coalition partner in a government. "They (AGP) have said a lot about us. We too have a lot to say but we are quiet because of our alliance. At the right time, we will speak up too," Momin added.

Reacting to AGP MLA Rekha Rani Das Boro's remarks against the BJP, Momin said that there's no 'Raavan' in BJP, in fact she is 'Surpanakha' (Raavan's sister).
