The Jalukbari Police seized an oil tanker while stealing oil on Thursday. The tanker with registration number AS 01 GC 9539 has been seized near Hotel Radisson Blu.

The police apprehended the driver of the tanker while they were stealing oil while the others in the gang managed to escape from the scene. The driver has been identified as Narayan Biswas.

According to reports, the oil tanker was carrying oil of Noonmati Refinery from Betkuchi to Boko.

Police informed that the gang was involved in oil smuggling since long from Guwahati to other parts on daily basis. They also informed that a huge gang was involved in the oil smuggling business.

Police also informed that a section of ONGC officials and supply officers are also involved in the racket.
