Old man found dead, NRC blamed

NRC continues to threaten lives of many as names ofthousands are missing from the list and the thought of being sent to adetention centre if unable to prove one's Indian citizenship is now claiming oneor the other lives every other day.

In a similar incident in Boko, around 70 kms away fromGuwahati, an old man aged 88 was found dead on Sunday morning.

The body of the dead, identified as Asraf Ali, was found byhis neighbours lying inside a school campus which is 200 metres away from hisresidence in Sontoli. Those people who found his body had alleged that he tookpoison to end his life.

However, the police refuting the allegations has said that there were no signs of poisoning.

Kamakhya Misra, in-charge of Sontoli police outpost informedthat Ali had a voter ID which showed his age as 88. His financial condition wasalso poor. There were no injury marks on his body. No suicide note or poisonbottle was found near him.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the police gatheredthat he was called for a NRC hearing recently. But it was not clear whether itwas the reason behind his death. Further, the body has been sent for postmortem to find out whether death was natural or due to other causes.
