One held for extortion from Beltola

A man from Beltola in Guwahati has been arrested by police on Thursday for trying to extort money in name of militant outfit ULFA (I) in the city.

The man, identified as Babu Bora, was arrested from Survey in Beltola for claiming himself to be an ULFA operative and demanding money from a city based contractor.

Bora was apprehended after he demanded Rs 10 lakh from a contractor who resides in Hatigaon area of Guwahati.

Babu Bora is a resident of Barpujia in Nagaon.

The fake ULFA man demanded money through phone calls and letters to the contractor, which helped the police to traceand arrest him.
