Panchayat polls: Lawmakers cast votes

Voting is underway on Wednesday for the first phase of the panchayat polls across 16 districts in Assam amid tight security. Voters were seen queuing outside polling stations in the districts despite the morning chill. Polling started at 7 AM and will end at 3:30 PM.

Meanwhile, several Ministers, MLAs and leaders were seen queuing outside polling stations to cast their votes. Assam Assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami casted his vote at 134 Nawshaliya polling Station under Saraibahi Zila Parishad in Jorhat district.

AGP president Atul Bora also casted his vote at the 77 no. polling station in Jyoti Bidyapeeth under Bokakhat. Other than Hitendra Nath Goswami and Atul Bora, MP Kamakhya Prashad Tasa casted his vote at Jorhat and Assam Ministers Topon Gogoi and Keshab Mahanta casted his vote at Sonari and Kuworitul respectively.

Assam MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Prashanta Phukan have also casted their votes at Melamora High School and Nijmankota polling station respectively. Former Assam Minister Ajanta Neog also casted her vote at Fesuwal Maktab LP School.

Voting is currently underway in Tinsukia, Dibrugrah, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Kamrup (M) and Kamrup districts.
