Yoga instructor Satinath Baral has been arrested by Darrang police in Kolkata on Thursday.

There were several complaints against Baral at different police stations of Assam for making derogatory comments on  Assamese polymath, Saint-scholar, Srimanta Sankardev.

On September 28, during a yoga camp held in Duni in Darrang district of Assam on September 28 this year, Baral said that Srimanta Sankardev wasn't a saint and there was nothing spiritual about the Namghars in Assam. He had also called the use of mustard oil to light earthen lamps in Namghars "sheer stupidity".
