Patients face consequences of nurses’ protest

A pregnant woman died in Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) on Wednesday. Identified as Pinky Kaha, allegedly died at JMCH following delay of surgery due to lack of nurses in the hospital. In another incident at Sivasagar, a young girl also died following the same situation in hospital.

Earlier, police have arrested as many as 100 nurses who were on strike in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for the past two days.

Reportedly, on Tuesday, State Health Minister Pijush Hazarika called a meeting with the protesters to solve their problems, after-which the representative body of All Assam Nursing Association (AANA) visited the office of Pijush Hazarika. However, at the last moment the minister had cancelled his appointment with AANA's representative body.
