The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for the dense population of one-horn rhinos, reopened to tourists today after remaining closed during the monsoon.

Closed in May last before the onset of the monsoon as a routine, the sanctuary reopened with both domestic and foreign visitors taking elephant rides, jeep safaris, sanctuary sources said.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in Morigaon district in Assam, India. It was declared in 1987 and covers 38.85 km², providing grassland and wetland habitat for the Indian rhinoceros.
