Police detain protesters from Dispur

Police detained several protesters from Dispur during a protest rally on Wednesday. Objecting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 70 organisations including KMSS and AJYCP staged protest in front of Assam Secretariat and shouted slogan against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP government and Assam Police.

Palash Changmai, Dharjya Konwar and several leaders of the organisations took part in the protest. The protesters also slept on the busiest GS road. They even went on to pelt stones at the police, after which police resort to lathicharge.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday is likely to be placed for consideration in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
