Prime accused of Ugratara deity theft case arrested

The primeaccused of the sensational theft at the Ugratara temple has been arrested onWednesday night. Acting on a tip off, the Latasil police launched an operationto arrest the accused from Satgaon area in Guwahati.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ajijul Ali. He hails from Kaljhar village under Baksa district. "Based on tip off, we launched a 4-hour long search operation to nab accused Ajijul Ali. We are still investigating the matter," said an official of Latasil Police.

It may be mentioned here that the centuries-old deity was stolen from the temple on the night of November 15. Later, the stolen deity was recovered by the Golaghat Police from Tihu area in Nalbari district on May 1.
