The ABVP unit of JNU had organised a 'Public Talk on Ishan Uday: Bridging the heart' after their win at the University elections. During the talk, the chief ministers of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh had been invited to address the students at Koyna Hostel mess.

During the interaction, CMs of the three states informed the students about the vibrant changes coming up in the northeast under PM's leadership and how there has been development in employment, education and health care in the northeast.

Assam CM Sonowal said that he wants the students to work for the nation, adding that Abvp is committed to rashtra dharma.

"JNU is power house of human resource. Now it is up to you students to put up all efforts for the growth of the country to realise India's position among the comity of nations", said Sonowal.

However, with slogans of 'Go back Sonowal' among others, students of the left wing along with teachers and students of northeast staged a protest outside the mess demanding a status of full-fledged university to the Assam Women's University and sanctioning compensation to the flood-affected.

The protest also led to a scuffle between members of ABVP and the protestors which led to an abrupt end to meet.

Taking to Twitter, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said, "Although some people tried very hard to disrupt the 'Ishan Uday – Bridging the Heart' programme at JNU, it did not deter us to speak our mind for National Integration & Pan #NorthEast development under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji."
