Tension continues to simmer in Itanagar and its adjoining areas in the wake of a man's death in clashes that broke out between police and agitating members of the tribal community on Friday.

On Sunday morning, Arunachal's Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein's residence and the DC office in Itanagar were set alight by disgruntled protesters. The deputy CM residence was completely destroyed. The situation in the area remained tense. Since this morning, there has been a lot of movement by people and police are carrying out patrols. The situation is still volatile.

As per reports reaching here, the angry protesters are now moving to CM Pema Khandu's residence after burning the deputy CM residence.

Meanwhile, the residence of Environment and Forest Minister Nabam Rebia, who is also the Chairman of the PRC Joint Power High Committee (JPHC) has also been burned.

The government has ordered telecom service providers to block data network "to avoid rumour mongering through internet in the interest of public safety".

The mobs, protesting against the government move to grant permanent residency certificates (PRCs) to non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe communities of Namsai and Changlang districts went on a rampage, indulging in arson and stone pelting.
