Rajya Sabha adjourned for third consecutive day over Assam’s NRC issue

Pratidin Bureau

Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon today on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). Following the publication of the final NRC draft on July 31, the house has been adjourned for the third consecutive day as opposition and the BJP led government continue to criticise and allege each other over the issue.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Anand Sharma of Congress sought an apology from BJP's  Amit Shah saying that he defamed former Prime Ministers since Rajiv Gandhi for not having the courage to implement the Assam Accord.

Reacting to the allegations, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said he will go through the record and appealed to the members to allow the House to function.

Naidu then asked Amit Shah  to speak on the NRC. However, Anand Sharma along with his party members continued to demand an apology from the ruling benches. The House was then adjourned till noon.
