Rajya Sabha session to be extended till 15 Feb

Pratidin Bureau

Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Vijay Goyal has proposed that the Rajya Sabha Winter session could be extended till 15th February if required. The last session of Parliament before the next Lok Sabha election was earlier scheduled to  take place from January 31 to February 13. However to fulfill the criteria, Bharatiya Janata Paty (BJP) must take permission from the Business Advisory Committee of the Upper House.

BJP is adamant on implementing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 at any cost at the Rajya Sabha. Amid protest all over and massive uproar against the  Bill on Tuesday, there are chances that the bill may not be discussed at the Rajya Sabha (RS) today. The first hour from 11 am to 12 pm is the zero hour second hour is the question hour and from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock is the lunch hour.

Ten hours have been allocated for the President's speech and debate. Reply to the President's speech by the Prime Minister is scheduled to take place place sometime around 1030 -11 o'clock if at all RS is allowed to work normally.
So there are probabilities that the discussion on the of Amendment Bill may not take place on Tuesday and it would be passed over to Wednesday's Schedule.
