Sahitya Akademi Translation Award for Partha Pratim Hazarika

The Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2018 has been conferred on writer-translator Partha Pratim Hazarika on Monday.

The Sahitya Akademi awarded Hazarika for his Assamese translation of author Mamoni Raisom Goswami's book "Rāmāyaṇa from Gangā to Brahmaputra".

The book is based on Comparative study of Rāmacaritamānasa by Tulasīdāsa and the Assamese Rāmāyaṇa by Mādhava Kandalī with illustrations of sculptures, paintings, manuscripts, etc. depicting the story of Rama.

Awards for translations were instituted in 1989 at the instance of then-Prime Minister of India, P. V. Narasimha Rao.The Sahitya Akademi annually gives these awards for outstanding translations of major works in other languages into one of the 24 major Indian languages.
