Sahitya Sabha delegation meets CM Sonowal

Pratidin Bureau

Protests continued unabated against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill across Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today reassured the delegation of Assam Sahitya Sabha that he would 'never betray the people of Assam'.

On Tuesday, Assam Sahitya Sabha delegation met CM Sonowal to discuss about the prevailing situation of the state. The meeting has been organised at Brahmaputra Guest house in the city.

"I will not do anything which is against my native land. Today, I am here because of the love and trust of the people. I have not come here to betray them." said Sonowal.

CM Sonowal had been criticised for not considering the sentiments of the people against the Bill. When the state government of Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland came out to oppose the Bill, pressures have increased on CM Sonowal.
