Saraighat bridge likely to be repaired after Magh Bihu

Pratidin Bureau

The cracks on the Saraighat bridge had led to serious traffic snarls over the bridge. Pertaining to the issue, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said that it is likely to carry out repair work after Magh Bihu in January.

According to reports, repair will be carried out during 'traffic blocks' when the deck will be closed for vehicular traffic for duration of a few hours on each day.

Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, Pranav Jyoti Sharma said, "This is part of regular repair and maintenance work which is carried out in the bridge at times. There is no need for anybody to be apprehensive. The engineering section of NFR is in full readiness to carry out the work. We are waiting for sanction for the 'traffic block' from the State government".

Meanwhile, sources said that the State government is likely to grant permission for traffic block after the Magh Bihu festival.

Traffic block of up to four-five hours a day would be required over a duration of three-four days to complete the repair work, they added.
