Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami passes away

Venerable Satradhikar (Bhakat) Narayan Chandra Goswami of Majuli's Notun Kamalabari Satra passed away in Guwahati in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Nearly 80-years old, the Satradhikar was suffering from prolonged sickness of liver cirrhosis and was admitted to Nemcare Hospital in the capital city.

Satradhikar Goswami was a leading Vaishnavite and Sanskrit scholar of the country. He was renowned for his scholarly work on the Brajabuli language and Neo-Vaishnavite religion and Satriya culture.

Furthermore, he was conferred the honorary Doctor of Literature (D Lit) degree by Dibrugarh University in 2010 and has been honored with several awards and accolades and was a recipient of Srimanta Shankardev Bota and Shankardev Shilpi Sadhana Bota. He has written, edited, and translated over twenty books.
