Bangladesh appoints new Assistant High Commissioner to India

Pratidin Bureau

After months of dilly-dallying, the Bangladesh government has finally decided to appoint Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur as the new Assistant High Commissioner to India in Guwahati.

Monsur was serving as the Consular (Political) at the Bangladesh embassy in Moscow. He is likely to assume office in his new post within a week's time.

Monsur's appointment comes at the wake of the publication of the complete draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, and the issues that may arise in the subsequent bilateral ties between the two countries.

His predecessor Kazi Munteshar Murshed was called back to Bangladesh around three months back by the Bangladesh government on a short notice after which no immediate replacement was given. Murshed was promoted as the Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka.

This also hampered the process related to visa issuance from the Guwahati office.
