‘Shah promises to exclude 75 lakh Bangladeshi from Assam’: Himanta

Pratidin Bureau

UnionHome Minister Amit Shah has promised to exclude 75 lakh Bangladeshis from Assamin the next NRC, said Assam Health and Finance Minister Dr Himanta BiswaSharma.

Addressing a BJP conclave at Guwahati, he said that Mr Shah had made the promise before the AASU delegation led by Dr Samujjal Kr. Bhattacharya in a recently held meeting with Mr Shah.

"Give us one opportunity to do NRC in our way, we will ensure 75 lakh exclusion" Mr Shah reportedly said.

Castigating the ongoing statewide spontaneous agitation against the CAB, Dr Sharma said that the NRC had excluded 7,02,000 Muslims Bangladeshi

According to him, only five lakh people would get settlement through CAB and for that such an agitation was unjustified.

According to him, CAB will help stabilisation of population and some assembly setas would be protected from going to the AIUDF control. He cited the example of Hojai, which had the maximum cut in the NRC.

He cited numbers from the NRC and harped on the AASU and protestors for remaining silent against the NRC's less exclusion but protesting against CAB.
