Shiv Sena to oppose CAB

Former BJP ally Shiv Sena is likely to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) after Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet passed the contentious bill on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, UddhavThackeray-led Shiv Sena is set to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill whichwill be tabled in Parliament next week. Shiv Sena has claimed that this billwould pose a threat to national security. It may be mentioned here that Thackerayis leading a coalition government with the NCP and Congress in Maharashtra.

In Wednesday's Cabinetmeeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the bill to amend theCitizenship Act, 1955 was cleared. Subsequently, Union Minister PrakashJavadekar confirmed this in a press briefing.

Apart from Sena, the Billhas been opposed vehemently by opposition parties like Congress, Trinamool, SamajwadiParty, RJD and the Left.
