Silchar: Barak, its tributaries in spate

Flood isengulfing more and more districts of Assam with each passing day pertaining toincessant downpour since a few days now. The water level of the Barak River isrising at an alarming rate flooding several areas of the Barak Valley.

Water level in Silchar, Lakhipur and Amraghat is rising at an alarming rate.

The water level of Barak and its tributaries is flowing above the danger mark. In Silchar's Annapurna Ghat the water level is flowing at 21 cm which is more than one cm above the danger mark.

Simultaneously, the continuous rains has created artificial floods in Silchar town submerging several roads and paths and paralysing normal life.

Jeopardizinglives of common people, National Highway Road, Shillong Patty, Ambika Patty,Vivekananda Road, Bilpar, Sonai Road among other busy areas have beencompletely flooded.

The artificialfloods are a result of having no proper water outlet facilities, which in turnblock the drains in the town, alleged the locals.
